Settlement & Integration

Building a new life in Canada can be challenging, especially for LGBTQ+ newcomers facing language and cultural barriers. At VIVI'R LGBTQ+, we understand the unique needs of Spanish-speaking LGBTQ+ refugees and immigrants. We are here to guide and support you on your settlement journey, fostering a sense of belonging in your new home.

Interpretation & Support:

VIVI'R LGBTQ+ understands that navigating new systems can be difficult in a second language. That's why we provide professional interpretation services to ensure clear communication during appointments with legal, housing, health, and employment service providers. Our interpreters are culturally competent and committed to advocating for your needs.

Government & Legal Assistance:

We know the importance of finding legal support that understands the LGBTQ+ experience. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can connect you with LGBTQ+-friendly immigration lawyers specializing in refugee claims, humanitarian applications, and compassionate applications. We can also refer you to legal workers experienced in navigating name and gender marker changes on government documents.

Financial & Social Support:

Building a secure financial foundation is an essential part of settlement. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can help you navigate the process of obtaining a Social Insurance Number and connect you with LGBTQ+-friendly liaisons at banking institutions to open bank accounts and access financial services. We can also provide referrals to social assistance programs like Ontario Works and ODSP to ensure you have the support you need.

Finding Your Way

LGBTQ+ Friendly Providers:

Finding healthcare providers who understand the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community is crucial. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can refer you to LGBTQ+-friendly healthcare professionals, including general practitioners, specialists, and mental health providers.

Provincial Health Plans:

We understand that navigating provincial health plans can be confusing. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can assist you with accessing and registering for a provincial health plan, like OHIP, to ensure you have access to essential healthcare services.

HIV/AIDS Support:

VIVI'R LGBTQ+ recognizes the importance of specialized support for those living with HIV/AIDS. We can connect you with liaisons at external organizations dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals living with HIV/AIDS, such as Latino's Positivos or the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation.

Practical Needs

Food & Shelter:

Settling in a new place can bring unexpected challenges. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can help you access essential resources like food banks and shelters if needed.

Transportation & Food Allowances:

We understand that appointments and meetings can create additional burdens. VIVI'R LGBTQ+ can help by covering transportation fees and providing food allowances while accompanying you to important appointments to ensure you can focus on your settlement journey.
